The one with nuts on top is made from a kind of squash and is called Coca de Cabell D’Àngel’.
Cabell D’Àngel means Angel Hair.
The fruity one has crema inside – no need to tell you that there isn’t much left of that one! They were both delicious.
Interesting family fact of the week……here the word for parents is ‘pares’ which is also the word for fathers. The word for siblings is ‘germans’ which actually means brothers. It is a common mistake for people learning English to ask about your fathers or your brothers, regardless of gender.

They will often also tell you that they have two fathers, which is sometimes not their intention, or that they have all brothers and no sisters, or that they went somewhere with their grandfathers, showing an unusually close familial relationship…..
When teaching it’s something I always call them on.
Before getting to snotty though, I do remind myself that the English word, parents, clearly derives from the same male word and refers to both mother and father; so, we aren’t really all that different all told.
I just realized what I’ve been missing in my life – CAKE! And you, of course, dear friend. Sorry for my silence. I am just processing as best I can.
Cake helps in so many ways! Even looking at pictures of cake can make you feel happier. Making cakes is therapeutic and bringing a cake to a friend is something they won’t forget. I wish I was better at making cakes so I keep practising and luckily I have someone here who will eat almost anything in cake form even if it is burnt!
But what I am best at is eating cake – so long as it is not one of those fluffy light sponges that people sometimes have at weddings.
Those are some of my Sunday thoughts on cake! Kx
