Sorting things out – I hope

Since I got back to Lamorna –  two weeks ago – I have

  • lunched and dinnered with friends
  • had my eyes tested and ordered new glasses
  • spoken to doctor and got more asthma drugs (ones in Catalunya too strong)
  • walked the dogs every day – twice on the beach in the sunshine
  • spent a day in St Ives
  • seen dolphins
  • had my eyelashes tinted
  • been to Truro hospital for an X ray of my kidneys
  • tried to fix the kitchen taps
  • finally got in touch with a plumber
  • seen my accountant about last years tax
  • done some acupuncture
  • fixed the hoover
  • had my hair cut and coloured
  • seen a financial advisor about my pension
  • taken van to have new brake pads fitted
  • cut down brambles
  • had two bonfires
  • been up to Devon for tango
  • danced tango in Penzance
  • had the keyboard replaced on my MacBook
  • seen The Kings Speech in the Savoy Cinema
  • and much much more…

Perhaps that’s why today I have a streaming cold!
Why is it always like this when I come back – is it me?
I can’t control the lists of things to do. And I feel bad about all that I haven’t yet managed to do.
This time I was determined to spend more relaxed time just living here, being with the dogs and seeing friends without the feeling of cramming them in.  I didn’t want to approach the end of my ‘holiday’ with an impossible long list of stuff to fit in on the last days. But….the list of what is still to do is not much shorter than the one above.  Will I ever get this right?

Oh well, I think it’s time to just stop and listen to the birdsong.

  1. It looks as though you’ve got an awful lot done, even if there is more that you’d like to do. Are you still eating garlic while you’re in the UK, as we’re sure that it keeps colds at bay.

  2. Getting your eyelashes tinted, that would be a priority, not sure they know what that is here. Honestly I have never been anywhere with less need for mascara in my LIFE!

  3. Dear P – yes oh yes – my body first and birdsong next. It was telling me for days to stop smoking – even just two a day was too much plus the native damp here.

Jan – had some wonderful soup yesterday and today – ginger, hot chilli and about 6 garlic cloves plus all the veg. It felt like nectar from heaven but may have arrived too late to stop the virus.

Oreneta – have you been to Granollers? You can’t step outside without a good smudge of makeup and a nice pair of boots (with jeans tucked in of course!) Eyelash dye is such a priority that I may well do it again before we leave!

    Thanks All. K x

  4. Try the Big Sweat cure to get rid of your cold. First, a hot, hot shower, get out, wrap yourself in a wooly blanket, jump into bed where there are hotties and electric blanket if you have one. Turn on all heaters, fires up etc. Drink hot lemon and whisky, with a raw (organic, freerange) egg stirred in and cayenne pepper. Swallow raw peeled garlic cloves like pills (a whole bulb) and finish the drink. Lie there and sweat/sleep for a couple of hours. Then jump out, have a cleaning up shower to remove the sweat now full of cold bugs, change the sheets, go back to bed for a restful sleep. Cold symptoms should all be gone in the morning!
