It's still light and there are people in town but the shops have just shut at 5pm. We arrived in Totnes at about 4.45pm. Just in time to get excited, then panicky, then disconsolate. Lovely shops but we cant go in!

That’s not early closing, that’s proper shopping hours! I still can’t get used to everything being shut in the afternoon, so that you have to go and do shopping in the norning… we’d never go shopping in the evenings.
Either way it’s not easy to remember and I am always finding myself trying to buy things at the wrong time – both in the UK and Catalunya. But I do so like going out at night to take a stroll around the shops and have a coffee. It now seems strange that towns here are dead in the evening. K x
