The tiles are made of cement and are officially called ‘encaustic cement tiles’. Follow the link I have added to the word ’tiles’ and you will find more information. They are beautiful and practical and decorative and to be found in many houses and shops and bars in Barcelona.

Kate, how beautiful! Are the tiled floors good for dancing too?
The Catalans seem to have this huge desire for embellishment, it’s obvious of course from the facades in Barcelona – but I had another look at your pictures of the elaborate murals, which seem to come from that same desire. No wonder there are so many great Catalan artists.

Those are beautiful! I love tile and it was fun to see these.
And I was surprised to see a quilt pattern–the third picture has a version of Ohio Star (I think that’s what its called.) I don’t know a thing about quilting in Europe so have no idea if that was a popular one there too.
